[A Note from Miss Bunch]

I hope you all had a wonderful and restful spring break! We are down to the final week before Milestone Testing begins. As always, please use our class website as a resource to stay up to date on things coming up, due, and resources to use in the weeks ahead.

April 18: GA Milestones Begin

[PTO NEWS]

PTO Board for 2016-2017 -- your input matters!
We are soliciting nominations here for the election of next year's PTO Board until this Friday, April 15. Job descriptions are within the online form (make SURE to hit SUBMIT). You can also nominate at this Thursday's State of the School event -- put your thinking cap on! Once the slate of candidates has been confirmed, elections will occur from the end of April until the second week of May. Your nomination is anonymous, unless you prefer otherwise.

Also, here's the link spelled out in case the above doesn't work (but I think it should): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1pyAHwcstdPLAduXYgQZd9bKmLyE6lkAHpASUF0xwWiY/viewform?edit_requested=true

[Homework]

Please continue to check your child's agenda each night. Our homework is back to the weekly homework sheet, which is due on Friday. Your child should review skills using their Coachbooks every night, read, and study their spelling words as well.

Please have your child continue to read and review all skills covered in their Coachbooks for the Georgia Milestones. I highly recommend reviewing these skills, looking over their agenda, and discussing this homework daily with your child.

Continue to encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes a day. This will benefit your child in the long run!

[A Note from Miss Bunch]

This week coming up just may be the busiest week of our 5th grade year! We have SO much planned, due, and to get ready for! Again, please use our class website as a resource to stay up to date on things coming up, due, and resources to use in there weeks ahead. You will also see new pictures located on the website as well. I hope you all have a WONDERFUL week ahead, as I am sure we will in class and on our two expeditions!

[Projects Due]

Our March book report is due this Wednesday, March 30th! All students should bring their shirts in Wednesday and be ready to present to the class on Friday.

Your child also has a ELA review due on Wednesday. This has been an in class project, however they may need some extra time at home for completion.

Ask your child about their ELA review study packet! It should be useful as we quickly approach MAP and Milestones. This is an independent and creative project for them to use as a study guide. I would like to see all completed projects on Wednesday, March 30th.

[Chaperone for Expedition to Stone Mountain]

We are headed to Stone Mountain on Tuesday and our class is in need of one more chaperone. If you are available for the day on Tuesday, but let me know. We would LOVE to have you tag along on the boat!

[Homework]

Please continue to check your child's agenda each night. Our homework has changed to "daily" homework, which is different than our weekly homework "sheet". Your child should practice skills out of their Coachbooks every night, read, and study their spelling words. They also have lots of different projects coming up. These projects, and their due dates, are on the website as well.

Students will also receive daily homework assignments inside their Coach Books. This is a fantastic way to review all skills covered on the Georgia Milestones. I highly recommend reviewing these skills, looking over their agenda, and discussing this homework daily with your child.

Continue to encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes a day. This will benefit your child in the long run!

[Supplies Still Needed]

We will so be able to explain how a volcano is both constructive and a destructive force! However, we need your help! If you have any of the follow items at home, please donate them to our class. Our goal is to make as many volcanoes in the classroom as possible!

  • bag of dirt

  • bag of sand

  • white vinegar

  • baking soda

  • red food coloring

  • dish washing soap

  • large pan

  • small pieces of styrofoam

  • small tube of toothpaste

  • cardboard tubes (toilet paper roll or paper towel rolls)

  • drinking straws

Thank you in advance for any donations to our constructive and destructive volcanoes!

[Rock Ranch Info]

On Monday your child will bring home a "Money Bag" where they can put their money into to buy any souvenirs. You can fill out a basic form, located in the bag, place their money in the bag and return it to me by Wednesday. I will hang on to ALL money and hand it out at Rock Ranch.

Also, a medication form will be sent home on Monday. If you child has any medication, or medical needs, please fill this form out. I will collect this no later than Wednesday as well.
